What was your project about?
Kaitlyn and Kasey launched a podcast, From the Margins: What Music Theory Doesn’t Want You to Know, which confronts long-standing issues such as racism, sexism, and capitalism within the music industry. The podcast approaches song through multiple analytical lenses, including music theory and feminist ideology. They have released over twenty episodes, with more to come, as well as a companion blog with resources.
Where are you now and how did your project shape the work you’re currently doing?
I graduated from the University of Oregon in June 2026, and I started a new job at St. Olaf College in Minnesota in August. Kasey and I talk a LOT about pedagogy on our podcast and I’m so grateful to have gotten the chance to bounce ideas around with her both on and off the pod. Now that I’m going out into the “real world,” I’m so excited to be using this knowledge and experience and perspective to make my teaching the best it can be!
